Twilight Zone

I was shopping in a local big box store in search of new bedroom drapes.  I found the drape department to be a little overwhelming and was happy to locate a fellow who worked there. He directed me to a freestanding display in the aisle and explained that the drapes in the section were a much better deal as they came boxed by the pair and cost just slightly more than the single drapes boxed separately. There was a large selection in various colors.

I selected a set, paid for them, and took the drapes home.  I hung them and admired them. I liked them so much that I returned to the same store a week later to buy another pair.

When I arrived at the drape department I noticed that the freestanding display was no longer there so I assumed the fixtures in the department had been reconfigured. I located a store employee and explained to him that I had purchased some gray drapes the previous week from a standalone display in the aisle and was returning to buy another pair.

He looked at me puzzled. He said that nothing about the display area had changed in years.  I described the product I had purchased as having come two to a package and that they had little magnets sewn into the fabric to help keep them closed. He told me he was the buyer for the store and had never purchased any drapes that had magnets or that came two to a package. He asked me if I was sure that I came to this store and I said yes, I was sure.  He walked me over to a register and paged through all the drapes in the store catalogue.  None came two to a package and none had the little magnets. I was overwhelmed by the Twilight Zone experience.  I made a purchase and returned home puzzled and remain so to this day.
